Originally from Pakistan, Sumeyye Kerim has made it in history by being the first girl with headscarf ever to talk in the British Parliament.
Kerim told AA correspondent, “It was an unforgettable experience for me. It was great to represent young Muslim women. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to make a speech.”
Emphasizing on the great number of Muslims living in the UK, she also said, “I’m hoping to see more headscarved women in the British Parliament, which would be great”.
United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP) is made up of young people between the ages 11 and 18 and the members are selected by vote. The members of the Youth Parliament represent the regions and cities they live in similar to the British Parliament. Meetings are held every year and the problems of the youth are discussed in the House of Commons and House of Lords.
