Cemil Cicek described Turkey’s EU accession process as a football match and said, “When Turkey’s EU membership process is the matter of the question, EU kicks the ball out of the field.”
Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek described Turkey’s EU accession process as a football match and said, “When Turkey’s EU membership process is the matter of the question, EU kicks the ball out of the field and we cannot keep the ball on the pitch. It always tackles and commits fouls, which diminishes Turkish interest in EU.”
Cicek who is in Hungary for a formal visit came together with Pecs Mayor Zsolt Pava in an Ottoman built building.
Pava stated that the bilateral relations of Turkey and Hungary have increased in the past few years and Hungary has been seeing Turkey as a friend and brother country.
Cicek noted that Turkey and Hungary have special relations and said, “We have mutual histories, mutual values and culture.”
Cicek also added that Turkey is happy for Hungary to become a member of EU and NATO.
Turkish parliament speaker asked Pava if they were happy to be a member of the EU.
Pava replied Cicek as saying, “I cannot say yes or no. There are amazing improvements and we benefit from EU sources. If we have a look at from this point of view, it is beneficial for us however sometimes we overreact. EU pushes Hungary from many channels, puts pressure on the current government.”
Cicek mentioned that EU applies different regulations usual to Turkey and said, “EU’s scale is not right every time. EU membership suits our books as well as their books however some countries cannot analyze that completely. We thank you for your support over Turkey’s EU accession process.”
Cemil Cicek also visited the Ottoman made mosques and marks in the Hungarian city of Pecs.
Cicek was accompanied by his spouse Gulten Cicek, Turkey’s Ambassador in Budapest Hasan Kemal Gur, Vural Kavuncu, chairman of the Turkey-Hungary Parliamentary Friendship Group, and several other parliamentarians.
