The latest installment in the Ertegün Jazz Series drew a wide audience from Washington’s arts circles for an Oct. 2 concert at the Turkish embassy’s historical residence in Washington.
The concert series is a long-organized event to commemorate Turkey’s second ambassador in Washington, Münir Ertegün, and his sons Nesuhi Ertegün and Ahmet Ertegün, who founded one of the United States’ most famous record labels, Atlantic Records.
For the most recent concert, the embassy hosted vocalist Akua Allrich and her band.
Turkish Ambassador to Washington Namık Tan said UNESCO had selected Istanbul as a host city for the second International Jazz Days on April 30, 2013.
“The event will make freedom and peace messages of jazz music to be heard by the world from Istanbul,” he said.
