Turkey Takes Firm Action Against Israeli Violence
Turkey has taken a strong and clear stance in response to Israel’s actions in Palestine. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized that measures of Turkey have been among the toughest globally. In May, Turkey halted all trade with Israel, drawing attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Since last October, Israeli actions have reportedly claimed over 43,000 Palestinian lives.
“As long as arms continue to flow to Israel, its aggression will only escalate,” Erdoğan stated upon his return from visits to Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan. He warned that unchecked, the situation in Palestine and Lebanon will worsen daily.
Growing Support for Palestinian Statehood
Erdoğan stressed the need for international support to recognize Palestine as a state. He noted that a two-state solution is essential for achieving regional peace and stability. In addition, trade restrictions of Turkey and sanctions against Israel serve as another form of resistance. He added that “active diplomacy” is vital to increasing pressure on Israel. “This is a true test of humanity,” he said, “and history will judge those who either ignored or supported oppression.”
Recently, The initiative of Turkey at the United Nations to halt arms shipments to Israel gained support from 52 countries and two international organizations.
Strengthening Regional Diplomacy
During the recent Arab-Muslim summit in Riyadh, Erdoğan highlighted efforts of Turkey to halt the violence in Gaza. These efforts, along with humanitarian aid of Turkey, received widespread praise. The summit also led to a joint appeal for Arab League members to endorse Turkey’s UN initiative. Additionally, Erdoğan held bilateral discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and engaged with leaders in Baku, Azerbaijan, at the COP29 UN Climate Change Conference.

Addressing the Climate Crisis: Turkey’s Commitment
Erdoğan emphasized Turkey’s dedication to reaching its 2053 net-zero emissions target. He explained that climate change is a critical global issue, comparable to armed conflicts and forced migration. Turkey, he said, is committed to implementing sustainable measures, but he stressed that global cooperation is essential. Without a united global effort, isolated actions will not suffice.
Turkey’s Zero Waste initiative, led by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, is gaining recognition. This initiative aims to encourage waste reduction as part of a broader climate action plan.
Hopes for Renewed Relations with the US Under Trump
Looking ahead, Erdoğan expressed optimism about the incoming U.S. administration. He suggested that Donald Trump’s presidency may open new opportunities for Turkey-U.S. relations. With Turkey’s strategic location and young population, Erdoğan sees potential for stronger trade and investment ties. Areas like energy, infrastructure, and technology offer particular promise.
When asked about potential partnerships with U.S. billionaire Elon Musk, Erdoğan noted that Turkey’s advances in technology are drawing global interest. If the opportunity arises, partnerships in this sector could develop.
Toward Normalization with Syria
Discussing Turkey’s position on Syria, Erdoğan affirmed that Ankara is open to reconciliation. He views it as a possible path to peace and stability in Syria. For security, cross-border operations remain part of Turkey’s strategy. Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s readiness to act against threats from groups like the PKK/PYD/YPG.
He also warned of the potential spread of regional tensions. Israel’s proximity to Syria raises the risk of conflict spilling over into volatile areas. In recent years, Turkey has conducted several operations in northern Syria to prevent terror corridors from forming. These efforts have enabled local residents to return safely.
