President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the commemoration ceremony on the 82nd anniversary of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s passing to eternity.
“I remember with mercy Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk – the commander-in-chief of our War of Independence, the founder of our Republic and our first President – on the 82nd anniversary of his passing to eternity,” the President said.
“WE WOULD HAVE DISAPPOINTED OUR NATION IF WE HAD NOT REJECTED SUBMISSION”
President Erdoğan stated: “Turkey continuing now in a stronger manner the War of Independence it launched a century ago is the reason why it faces such a deep and nefarious encirclement. We would encounter none of the existing obstacles if we, as was the case in the past, had remained within the narrow boundaries drawn for our nation, if we had not rejected submission, or if we had heeded the tutelage rather than the people. But then we would have disappointed our nation.”
“WE HAVE RISEN TO A POSITION WHERE TURKEY MAKES ITS WORDS HEARD IN EVERY REGIONAL AND GLOBAL ISSUE”
Drawing attention to the progress Turkey has made in terms of development over the past 18 years, President Erdoğan said that Turkey is now capable of defending all of its historical and civilizational heritages across the world.
“We have risen to a position where Turkey makes its words heard in every regional and global issue, where his stance is attached importance to and the side he is on gains leverage,” said the President, singling out economy as one of the topics Turkey specifically concentrated on over the past 18 years.
“TURKEY HAS BEEN ABLE TO MANAGE THE PANDEMIC PROCESS WITH THE LEAST DAMAGE POSSIBLE”
Pointing out that international credit rating agencies fail to follow objective criteria while issuing ratings and that western media outlets direct unfounded criticisms at Turkey, President Erdoğan said: “We all watch those who self-appoint themselves as a patron of democracy but still take sides with putschists and brutal regimes just because Turkey stands with legitimate governments and the innocents who are oppressed. In such an environment, who can claim that the incidents we witness in economy are the outcomes of natural state of affairs! Even though the COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the already existing economic problems across the world, Turkey has been able to manage the pandemic process with the least damage possible.”
“WE ARE NOW WAGING A STRUGGLE OF HISTORIC IMPORTANCE AGAINST THOSE WHO SEEK TO YET AGAIN CONDEMN TURKEY TO MODERN-DAY CAPITULATIONS”
Recalling the major role the capitulations and the debt spiral played in the collapse of the Ottoman State, President Erdoğan underscored that one of the most important contributions of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Republic to Turkey was the termination of capitulations despite all the threats and pressures. “We are now waging a struggle of historic importance against those who seek to yet again condemn Turkey to modern-day capitulations through the shackles of interest rates, exchange rates and inflation. Never compromising the rules of free market economy, never desisting from our determination to maintain growth by the hand of private sector and never forgetting the fact that money has no nationality or borders, we continue to work very hard.”
