The trial of Israeli military officials responsible for the attack on “Mavi Marmara” aid ship on May 31, 2010 will begin at Istanbul’s Seventh High Criminal Court on Tuesday.
A Turkish Prosecutor in Istanbul, Mehmet Akif Ekinci demanded nine life sentences for the then Chief of Israeli General Staff Rau Aluf Gabiel Ashknazi, Israeli Naval Forces Commander Eliezer Alfred Marom, Chief of Israeli intelligence Amos Yadlin and Israeli Air Force Commander Avishay Levi for their role in the attack on “Mavi Marmara” which left nine Turks dead and resulted in the injuries of more than 50 people.
“Mavi Marmara” ship was carrying aid materials to Gaza when it was stopped by Israeli troops in international waters. Israeli troops stormed the ship killing nine Turks.
490 people on the ship will be plaintiffs, including press members, at the trial in Istanbul.
