As the end of his final campaign nears, President Obama is thanking his supporters — even with phone calls to people he has never met.
“Hi Jim, this is Barack Obama,” the president said during a stop at a campaign office in Columbus, Ohio. “It really is. …
” Well listen,” he added, “I heard all the doors you’ve been knocking on — I wanted to say thank you.”
Obama walked around the office, shaking hands and posing for pictures.
“This is the foundation of this campaign,” he told the group. “All the ups and downs — the TV stuff doesn’t matter because you guys are what make this campaign.”
To one worker who asked for a stand-alone photo with the president, Obama said: “We’re gonna do pictures with everybody…you’re a field organizer, you gotta be looking out for your volunteers.”
On another call, Obama said: “This is Barack Obama, looks like I missed you, everybody’s been telling me what a great job you’re doing.”
Later, a woman sitting next to Obama says into her phone, “I’m sitting next to Barack Obama right now, he says hi to you!”
She hands the phone to Obama. who said: “Hey Gloria, keep it up!”
As Election Day itself nears, Obama will hold his last campaign rally late Monday in Des Moines, Iowa.
