The building, which was visited by the Great Leader Atatürk on December 20th, 1930 which was constructed by Mutasarrıf Neşet Pasha and Hacı Mestan Efendi, who was the mayor at that time, in 1894. It has been used as the municipality building actively until 1962 and was left to destruction in 1970 being completely emptied.
Restoration, exhibition and arrangement works, which were started in 1983 and continued with intervals, were completed in 1993.
There are arched windows on four sides of the reinforced concrete building having two floors except the basement and there is a bay window resting on four columns at the entrance. Archaeology and ethnography sections are in the upper floor and there is a Culture and Nature exhibition hall on the ground floor.
In Kırklareli Museum, the main target of which is helping and leading various scientific institutions and being a centre for late historical researches to be carried out in the surroundings, there are 3507 registered works, 515 of which are ethnographic, 1110 of which are archaeological and 1882 of which are coins. These works cover a time period between the Prehistoric Period and Republic Period in terms of historical development.
The registrations of the natural and cultural immovable assets that are carried out as a main duty by the museum directorate has a number that draws attention. For this purpose, there are 269 registered immovable buildings and site areas in our city, 98 of which are archaeological, 3 of which are urban, 13 of which are natural site areas and 155 of which are single buildings. Scientific excavation works are being carried out by our museum directorate and joint works with İstanbul University and Trakya University are being performed.
Information Introducing the Museum Sections and Statistical Information
The museum sections are planned for educational purposes for the schools.
1- Culture and Nature Hall:
It is at the museum entrance, on the ground floor. In this section, 102 various living creature samples from 76 species are exhibited in enbalmed condition. Some of these animals do not live any more or are under the threat of disappearing. The visitors of this section of the museum, which draws the greatest interest, are the students of secondary education, biology division students of the universities and lecturers and various researchers. Since the museum building is really insufficient, the archaic theatre reliefs are exhibited in this section.
2- Ethnography Section:
It consists of two parts on the upper floor. In the first part, village life in the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century is depicted. In the second part, besides the “Kırklareli City Room” unit reflecting the same period, showcases including clothes, Jewellery and various daily materials belonging to various periods are located.
3- Archaeology Section:
It completely consists of works obtained from Kırklareli and near surroundings in various ways. The exhibition starts with various sea, land creature species and tree fossils belonging to the post – glacial period and follows an order up to the end of Roan Period. In the showcases, mostly the works obtained as the result of the excavations made in Kırklareli Aşağıpınar, Kanlıgeçit and Tilkiburnu residence units and Pınarhisar İslambey A, Alpullu Höyüktepe and Dolhan tumulus. In this section, a coin showcase following a chronological order from the classical Periods till the Ottoman period is located. Since the number of works increase everyday and due to the insufficiency of the museum building, work change is carried out especially in Archaeology showcases before each Museum Week, but exhibition can not be made in the desired level and scope.
In the museum sections;
1- in the culture and nature hall: there are 102 enbalmed creature samples from 76 species, 4 shallow reliefs from Vize archaic theatre excavations, 1 column base and 1 sculpture (dolphin) part and a large woman sculpture at the entrance of the hall.
2- In the ethnography section, there are a total of 188 clothes, Jewellery and various house goods;
3- In the Archaeology section there are 72 coins, 236 various archaeological finds.
