Half of US voters say they would be embarrassed if Republican front runner Donald Trump were elected President, according to a Quinnipiac poll released on Tuesday.
Trump is known to be a divisive candidate, who has displayed complete disregard for the norms of party politics. He however holds a commanding lead in the Republican party as its frontrunner, with 28% support.
The poll also showed a divide in those who say they would be embarrassed by a Trump presidency on the basis of age, gender and political ideology. 6 out of 10 female voters said they would be embarrassed to have the billionaire as their President compared to 4 out of 10 male voters.
The poll also found that both leading Democratic candidates would beat Trump in a hypothetical matchup if the elections were held today.
