Erdogan said his bilateral meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, mainly discussed the Syria crisis.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that his bilateral meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Baku, Azerbaijan, mainly discussed the Syria crisis.
Erdogan said he offered Iran a negotiation mechanism between Turkey, Iran and Egypt to coordinate efforts to find a solution to the Syria crisis.
Erdogan also said it would be beneficial that the regional countries would express joint support to a call by Arab League-UN Syria Representative Lakhdar Brahimi, to achieve a ceasefire in Syria during the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Turkish Cyprus given observer status in ECO summit
Erdogan said the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has been given observer status in the recent summit meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
“One of the most important aspects of this summit was that the TRNC was given an observer status in the meetings. This is an important step and we are glad that we made that happen,” Erdogan told reporters after returning to Ankara from the Azeri capital.
Erdogan said he held separate bilateral meetings with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.
Erdogan said the summit meeting also discussed cooperation in areas such as trade, economy, investment, transportation, agriculture, energy, education, health and fight against organized crime.
