Clashes have came out between police and members of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), after police denied to let demonstrators attend to “Democratic Resistance for Freedom Rally” meeting in Diyarbakır.
Police kept protesters away from entering Diyarbakır’s İstasyon Square, in which the meeting was arranged to be held, by applying tear gas and pressurized water. A number of BDP members reportedly fired back at the police.
BDP officials tried to go ahead with the planned rally, in spite of the Diyarbakır Governor’s Office’s declaration on Monday that it wouldn’t allow the gathering.
Around 5,000 police officers and additional forces have been sent to the city.
