International Strategic Research Organization’s (USAK) latest report on the tension in northern Iraq says “Masoud Barzani wants to be leader of the Kurds in the region”.
The report says the main reason for the tension between Bagdhad and Irbil is oil and whoever controls Kirkuk, which has high quality and rich oil reserves, will control the rant of the oil as well.
Author of the report, Hasan Selim Ozertem, told AA correspondent on Wednesday that Iraq did not face a war but a domestic clash.
He said Baghdad administration would like to warrant security within the Iraq and also on the borderlines by establishing a strong military while Barzani would like to safeguard his autonomy via Peshmarga which was an alternative to central security forces. He also added that Barzani wanted to be the leader of the Kurds in the region.
He said Turkey’s taking sides would cause some structural problems.
USAK strategist Mehmet Yegin said Barzani needed Turkey at the very moment and Turkey should use the latest developments for its interests.
