Minister Fidan Shares in the Sorrows of Ahiska Turks Exile
On the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s forced exile of 94,000 Ahiska Turks, Hakan Fidan shared a message of solidarity. The Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkey, Hakan Fidan, honored the hardships the Ahiska Turks endured on November 14, 1944, and emphasized the ongoing support of Turkey for their community.
Turkey’s Commitment to Supporting Ahiska Turks Return
Minister Fidan expressed his sympathy for the losses suffered by the Ahiska Turks, noting that many lives were lost during the tragic exile from their homeland, now part of Georgia. Offering condolences, he recognized the lasting pain of survivors. Turkey, he stressed, actively supports the Ahiska Turks journey back to their homeland. Furthermore, he highlighted that Turkey is advocating for their rights on international platforms, including the Council of Europe. “We strongly support the completion of the Ahiska Turks journey home,” he stated, affirming Turkey’s dedication to this cause.
