Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law “on ratification of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan on security cooperation”, TAAS reports.
The document is published on the official portal of legal information of the Russian Federation.
This agreement was signed in Moscow on April 10, 2003, and the document was submitted to the state Duma in August. On October 21, the bill was ratified by deputies of The State Duma.
Turkmen parliamentarians ratified the document on October 24.
The document notes that the countries will work together to strengthen peace, increase stability and security in Central Asia and the world as a whole. Within the framework of this cooperation, the parties undertake to coordinate “their foreign policy activities, contributing to the continuation of the process of General disarmament and strengthening collective security, as well as strengthening the UN peacekeeping role and increasing the effectiveness of regional mechanisms,” the document says.
Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Russia have been established since April 8, 1992. The basic document defining the cooperation of the parties at present is The Treaty of friendship and cooperation of April 23, 2002 (replaced the similar Agreement of July 31, 1992).
In total, Russia and Turkmenistan have signed more than 170 agreements covering all areas of cooperation.
