Ukraine is ready to provide all possible support to Ahiska Turks, said Ukrainian Ambassador to TurkeyAndrii Sybiha.
The diplomat visited the Ahiska Turks families, who were resettled from Ukraine to the region of Üzümlü in Erzincan province by a decree of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“The region of Üzümlü in Erzincan province is important for us. In recent years, the resettlement to this region of Ahiska Turks who lived in Ukraine for many years started. Indeed, very good conditions have been created here for them. The Turkish government provided them with very good opportunities. Ukraine is also ready to provide all possible support to the Ahiska Turks in future.”
As informed, on September 2017, 104 families of Ahiska Turks from the last group of the ethnic Turks from Ukraine migrated to the Turkish province of Erzinjan.
The resettlement of the Ahiska Turks started from the East of Ukraine on December 25, 2015 by the decree of the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The first group of settlers from the East of Ukraine went to the Republic on December 25, 2015. 174 people including children were on board. These were families affected by the fighting in the Sloviansk region. Ahiska Turks migration was carried out in several stages.
Ahiska Turks are an ethnic subgroup of Turks formerly inhabiting the Meskheti region of the southwest of Georgia. They speak one of the northeast Anatolian dialects of the Turkish language.
