Faruk Sezgin who was a world renowned historian of Islamic science, died in Istanbul at the age of 94. He was laid to rest at the Gülhane Park where the institute he founded is located.
Speaking at the funeral of Prof. Fuat Sezgin, President Erdoğan said: “We will declare 2019 the Year of Prof. Fuat Sezgin Islamic Science History, which hopefully will lead to auspicious results in the area of the history of our science and culture.”
SEZGİN TO BE ENTOMBED NEXT TO MUSEUM FOR THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN ISLAM
“In accordance with his will, Prof. Fuat Sezgin will be entombed next to the Museum for the History of Science and Technology in Islam, which we founded together in 2008,” President Erdoğan said. “We will declare 2019 the Year of Prof. Fuat Sezgin Islamic Science History, which hopefully will lead to auspicious results in the area of the history of our science and culture.” President Erdoğan ended his address by offering his condolences to Sezgin’s family.
Also attending the funeral were Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey İsmail Kahraman, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Işık, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, Minister of Culture and Tourism Numan Kurtulmuş, Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Veysel Eroğlu and former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.
