Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabrie met amid diplomatic row on banned meetings and campaigns of Turkish officials in Germany.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Germany of “Nazi practices” because of the cancellation of rallies involving Turkish ministers which strained diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Sigmar Gabriel emphasised Germany’s wish to return to “friendly relations” while warning that comparisons with Nazi Germany are “lines that should not be crossed”.
A referendum will be held in Turkey on 16 April amending constitutional powers of Turkish president. 1.4m Turkish voters who live in Germany play a crucial role in this referendum.
