Bacha Khan University in Charsadda in northwestern Pakistan has come under attack by four armed militants aligned with the Pakistani Taliban, with resulting in 21 people being killed and at least another 50 people injured according to local media sources.
The attack occurred on Wednesday morning local time, when gunfire and explosions were heard from within the campus. Government forces quickly responded, swarming the university from the ground and the air in order to end the attack, resulting in the four attackers being killed according to Pakistani army spokesperson Lt. Gen. Asim Bajwa.
The government forces managed to end the siege relatively quickly, but the Pakistani Taliban, or Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistani (TTP) quickly claimed responsibility, claiming the attack was in response to a military offensive against extremists in the tribal areas.
