‘Win by Turkish Industrial Design’ is the catchword practised by Turkish industrial designers inspired by the country’s plentiful ethnical identity when planning products to fulfill the demands of modern life, and their talent has already been acknowledged by the international industrial design sector.
Since the world famed Industrial Design Day on June twenty-nine, Turkish masters also accommodated events to celebrate the day throughout the month. A virtual museum which is comprising of a diversity of products that was designed by Turkish industrial designers was available for public accession on June twelve, and an exhibition containing designed materials exhibited in windows in shops in the Beyoğlu district from 2nd half of the nineteenth century onwards was also opened up on June eleven. Additionally, many workshops were accommodated for children to arouse consciousness of industrial design and increase interest in the profession.
Gamze Güven, the project coordinator of the virtual museum, told that during their involvement at the Tortana Industrial Design Week in April which happened in Milan, a video looking into the minds of Turkish industrial designers was demonstrated to about 40,000 participants from around the world. She took note that in the video, the slogan “Rational as Western, Emotional as Eastern” was applied to catch the attention of the participants to show the singularity of Turkish industrial designers who are charmed by 5,000 years of history and culture in the lands of contemporary Turkey. “Besides diverse cultural influences, our motto ‘Win by Turkish Industrial Design’ was used to mean that in Turkey we propose speedy production and a upper-level of quality which is affordable concurrently,” she noticed.
What is more, she explained that industrial design items would be very advantageous for the Turkish economy since the designers may draw foreign buyers with their unique feel of design and can export their products abroad. Telling that the İstanbul Development Agency (İKV) gave the Industrial Designers Society of Turkey (ETMK) TL 600,000, which helped accomplish some of their goals, including membership to the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) in October 2011, she called on Turkish businesses to get to the understanding that industrial design could act a major role in appealing costumers to their products.
