Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Wednesday said “Turkey has taken all necessary additional measures for all kind of security risks” on Syria.
Speaking in a press conference in Ankara’s Esenboga International Airport after his official visit to Saudi Arabia, Davutoglu said “there is a misconception that as if some decisions will be taken and Turkey somehow will be a part of this or that plan”, regarding Syria.
“The period of transformation and transition in the Middle East is one of the critical processes that Turkey has witnessed,” said Davutoglu.
In response to a question whether the US demanded something on Syria from Turkey, Davutoglu said, “there is a perception which has been created that some countries demand things from Turkey in a situation such as this”.
Davutoglu reminded that Turkey was one of the first countries which called the United Nations Security Council into an emergency session at the first day in wake of chemical weapon attack in Syria.
“From the very beginning, Turkey has conducted its effective diplomacy on Syria including Russia and Iran during 10 months,” Davutoglu noted.
“Now that there is a civil war where 100 thousand people have died around Turkey’s 910 kilometers borderline, there is a risk that it can have an effect on us,” said Davutoglu.
Davutoglu said “Turkey takes all type of measures as part of its strategic interests,” and added, “Turkey has taken all necessary additional measures for all kind of security risks” on Syria.
“Hopefully, UN Security Council will take a common attitude this time to get through this,” Davutoglu said and added, the UK called the Security Council into an emergency session and hopefully those risks would not take place.
