In August 2012, unemployment in Turkey decreased by 0.4 percent compared to the same month of 2011 and hit 8.8 percent, the Statistics Institute of Turkey said in its report on Thursday.
The number of the unemployed in Turkey was 2.4 million people in August. Unemployment in rural areas increased by 0.1 percent and reached 4.8 percent of employable population.
Unemployment in urban areas decreased by 0.7 percent compared to August 2011, amounting to 10.9 percent of employable population.
Women’s employment in August increased by 0.1 percent and hit 30.1 percent. Employment among men declined by 0.9 percent and hit 71 percent.
