Turkey’s foreign trade operations in lira reached $ 10 billion from 2008 to 2012, the Turkish Economy Ministry’s report said today.
The share of exports in the Turkish national currency was at a zero level in 2008. But its share in the total exports of the country reached three percent in 2012. Turkey’s import in lira in 2008 was 1.6 percent of the total volume of import operations, while in 2012 the figure was 3.72 percent.
“At present, $4 of every $ 100 of Turkey’s foreign trade turnover fall to the transactions in lira,” a report said.
As of the first nine months of 2012, Turkey’s foreign trade turnover in lira amounted to $9.89 billion.
According to the report, the goods of textile, food and cosmetic industries are mainly traded in lira.
